Underwater Ordnance Clearance: Risks, Rules and Process

The risk is real

Many German waterways still contain unexploded ordnance from two world wars: bombs, shells, mines and ammunition. Construction work in water – from bridge building to quay rehabilitation – can become dangerous if ordnance is disturbed. A professional survey is often mandatory, frequently required by local authorities or the ordnance disposal service.

Survey process

  1. Desk study: historical research (aerial photos, archives) and risk assessment
  2. Technical survey: magnetometer and sonar measurement of the riverbed
  3. Diver survey: visual identification and classification of suspicious objects
  4. Recovery: in coordination with the responsible ordnance disposal service

Only licensed diving contractors may carry out survey work in ordnance risk areas. Taucherteam TRITON performs surveys and coordinates clearance – so your project starts safely and on schedule.
